Ceiling fan installation is a simple process yet involves electrical work. Although the electrical work is not tough, if you are not experienced or comfortable dealing with electricity, it is best to let yourself hire an electrician or contractor. It is safer and ensures the installation process is without flaws given that your electricity connection is up to code and meets the best ceiling fan’s motor requirements.

If ever you decide to do the work yourself, start off by switching off the power of the current overhead light, which will be replaced, at the main circuit box. This is to ensure a safe installation process. After that, read all the accompanying instructions of the ceiling fan. Be sure to take note of all the details and don’t go assuming things you can’t understand. The next thing you do is to remove the current light in a very careful manner. Removing it means cutting the connection of electric current and that means the wire must be handled properly. Since you will install a ceiling fan that requires a new electrical box, carefully remove the old one. This part of the process might be troublesome if you are not used to it.

If you find the wires or cuts obvious on the ceiling, you might want put an electrical medallion. Having an electrical medallion provides a professional look on the job. You can find this at many home improvement stores and is less expensive. Now you can mount the ceiling fan plate. This will provide anchorage on the ceiling so you have to double check and make sure it is properly attached.

After you have secured the ceiling fan plate, assemble the fan components following the instructions of the manufacturer. This ensures that it was installed accordingly and its durability is guaranteed. Right after all the wires are in place and fan motor installed, you can assemble the blades and light. When everything is done, you can turn on the electricity and start trying out your new ceiling fan.

You can always change the blades direction according to your preferences and season. During winter, you can direct the air downward to push the warm air away from the ceiling down to the living area. You will have to reverse it then during summer to keep cool air.
